One of my greatest fears is raising a family who doesn't have a single idea of what Filipino food is. I can't even imagine attending a future family party with absolutely none of it in sight. So, I've made it a personal mission to not have those situations happen on my watch.

Hi, I'm Ariana Bautista and I'm a 20-something year-old, Filipina American who despised Filipino food. Growing up, I preferred eating food seen on television —pizza, pancakes, pasta— and I never fully appreciated the food of my heritage.

My appreciation, or lack thereof, took a drastic turn when I took a culinary certificate program and traveled to the Philippines in the later half of 2017. During this time, I learned that a big part of me was missing—curiosity and knowledge about where my family comes from and the food that fuels its people forward. I've taken it upon myself to learn from my travels and to use my culinary experience as a portal to better understand Filipino history and cuisine.

Ariana Eats Lumpia (named after my 2008 AIM username) is a blog I created to help keep myself accountable for learning Filipino dishes and the background that comes along with them. Hopefully through this, I'll be able to learn new things, share delicious finds, and help me develop dishes that are traditional, modern, and my own.
